Joan Furchgott says she and Brad Sourdiffe are “in the business of making things that are meant to last.” In 1982 they returned to Vermont and began a home business restoring antique picture frames and objects, as well as custom framing. They opened a retail space when they bought Shelburne Frame & Art in ’91, at that time becoming Furchgott Sourdiffe Gallery.
The many facets of their shop in Shelburne include: a superb custom frame shop; an art gallery representing a stunning variety of fine local artists; a place to take an old mirror or frame for restoration (they also offer conservation service for oil paintings and works on paper); and a source of local jewelry, crafts or handcrafted scarves. It’s a wonderful place to visit.
Framing - Furchgott Sourdiffe offers a full spectrum of frames including their own hand-finished moldings, Vermont hardwoods with natural finish, hand gilded and fabric mats, and French mats. They pay attention to details on all jobs, whether it’s a poster or an original Manet from the Shelburne Museum.
Art Gallery – A diverse collection of more than forty artists, mostly from Vermont, many nationally known. Join their mailing list or visit the website for current exhibits and a list of artists.
Restoration – The decorative gilded molding on that old mirror of grandma’s can be repaired so that the damage will be undetectable – and the mirror can be moved from the attic to the front hall. Furchgott Sourdiffe does work for museums on objects as well as artwork.
Gifts – Vermont hand-crafted jewelry, hand-blown glass, handbags and pottery with a range of items and prices; Fair Trade items like scarves from India and beads from Africa.
